In Defense of Andrew Cuomo

After 28 years of having a Bush or Clinton involved with our executive branch (and more to come it seems), I think it's fair to dislike political legacies.  Certainly, people should not be rewarded just because they inherited a good last name. That being said, I think it's safe to say that Andrew Cuomo, son of former New York governor Mario Cuomo, has certainly carved his own niche in the world to make him a suitable replacement for Hillary Clinton.

For those who are unaware of his resume, he has been working in both the New York and Federal government for nearly three decades.  In that time, he has served as a tireless advocate for the homeless and for affordable housing.  His work in New York led to his appointment to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a department he would become Secretary of in Bill Clinton's second term.

His work as New York Attorney General has continued his long history of helping public.  He has gone after student lenders and mortgage brokers who were involved in suspicious lend practices including mortgage brokers who were artificially inflating mortgage appraisals.

Is he the best person for the job of US Senator? He's certainly one of them and that would be true with or without his surname.  I don't think it's fair that he be damned because other 'political legacies' have proven themselves to be less than adept at their chosen profession.
